Caged Courage
Kwaneta Harris / Oz Effect
Caged Courage is an audio-first history project directed by Kwaneta Harris, an incarcerated journalist, and produced by Jane Bloom and V Starks. The project captures the first-hand testimonies of currently and formerly incarcerated women whose lives have been shaped by gender-based violence: before incarceration, during it, and at the hands of the very institutions that claimed authority over their safety. The project involved photographing three women: Kiera Henderson, Anna Brooks, and Jennifer Rodriguez, the mother of Brooklyn, who committed suicide in prison after suffering abuse.
